Water detection & fuel quality test kit
- marine – power generation – construction equipment
- automotive – storage tanks – transport equipment + more
Easy to use – Test results confirmed at 30 minutes (sometimes sooner refer notes)
NB: All test results can be confirmed if you have indications of water from 5 minutes resting and above.
The test kit provides general results as your first steps in evaluating diesel for current or developing problems.
Water contamination detection & general fuel quality test kit.
Suitable for all types of diesel fuel testing applications
- marine – power generation – construction equipment
- automotive – storage tanks – transport equipment + more
Easy to use – Test results in 30 minutes or less
The test kit provides general results as your first steps in evaluating diesel for current or developing problems.
Components per test kit
1 x test agent for detection of water in diesel fuel @ 200 ppm (parts per million) & above.
1 x 100ml / 3.5 fluid ounce test bottle with haze rating test markers.
Misc. components
1 x Instructions plastic coated.
Best use by date: Test kits have at least 8 months use by when shipped.
These tests are accurate indicators of overall fuel quality and can be used by anyone as the first steps in fuel testing. If further tests are required for critical or for quantitative testing applications use a laboratory for a complete analysis.
The threshold levels good vs. poor fuel indicators used in the visual clarity haze rating tests are modelled on ASTM D4176 testing standards.
The water test is modelled on EN 590, the maximum allowable water content in diesel. The standard sets the limit at **200 mg/kg** (0.02% by mass) or 200 PPM – parts per million. This threshold is designed to minimize the potential adverse effects of water contamination on engine performance and longevity.
Non-toxic, non-hazardous materials contained in test kits. No liquids – no gels contained in kits.
Testing steps:
Fill the 100 ml / 3.5 FL ounce test bottle with your diesel fuel sample, pour detection agent into the test bottle, screw cap on, shake bottle briskly for 10 seconds. Rest sample for at least 30 minutes – then examine test bottle as per below
Part A: haze rating general fuel quality test – code ASTM D4176
View the haze rating test bars from the back of the bottle.
- Pass, image 1: You should be able to view in some way the haze rating test bars. A faint visual outline of the haze bars can be considered a pass.
- Fail, image 2: If you cannot view the haze rating test bars sample has failed the visual clarity haze test for general fuel quality rating.
Part B: water in fuel test – code EN 590
View the bottom area of bottle – hold near a light source or use a flashlight if needed. Fail, image 3: The detection agent will indicate any water present in your sample, turning the water detector pink, red or purple.
Any spots indicate water has been identified. Pass: No color spots and changes in detector indicates your sample is free from water contamination.
If you want to “baby sit” the water in fuel test you can check for water detector color changes at 5 to 10 minute intervals, high levels of contamination will indicate before 30 minutes. You can complete Part A haze rating quality test if the water indicator changes color at any point of the rest period.
Example scenario – water indictates in your fuel at 30 minutes, part B of the test can be marked as a fail result. You can then complete Part A right away for a pass or fail result.
- Points to note:
- You can confirm pass or fail results for Part A and Part B at 30 minutes of resting your sample.
- Testing results can be examined for a pass or fail result up to 24 hours from start of test. This means you can examine test results at 30 minutes or at anytime up to 24 hours from the start of test.
- Image 3 indicates a high water level fail result, even small levels of spots visible is a fail result.
